ZOMBIELAND
Official Site:
Cast: Abigail Breslin, Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg. Rating: MA15+ for Strong Horror Violence. Tagline: Nut Up or Shut Up. Theatrical Release: December 3, 2009 DVD Release: April 21, 2010 *2-disc edition also avaliable. BOX OFFICE: Ranking #6, the film averaged $5,642 at 153 sites with a gross of $863,203. Generally speaking, the films main marketing plot was that it was a comedy/horror film, which is intriguing enough, but due to the fact the over-hyped "Paranormal Activity" was released same weekend would withdrawl alot of audience for it. A semi-wide release, and a mediocre gross. The film should go on to gross $1.7-$2 million here. The film has a healthy 24% decrease, to have almost $2 million grossed already. Averaging $4,279 at 153 sites with a gross of $654,725. Already out-grossing my prediction, I feel the film should be able to crack $3.5 million. 3rd weekend saw a hefty 58% decrease, grossing $274,565 at 152 sites. 4th weekend saw a 77% drop, giving the film the film's 145 sites an appauling average of $433. DVD Special Features: * Commentery * Behind The Scenes * Zombification * Deleted Scenes * Visual Effects * Theatrical Promo Trailers * Shooting Zombies (2-disc) * Making of: Cast and Crew *2-disc) |
Plot Synopsis, Review
Two months after a virus that turned the world into zombies, a college student, a weird guy, and two sisters group together in an effort to survive. When the sisters leave to goto a theme park, the other two follow them after bonding, and ironically are just in time to hopefully save them from the flesh eating zombies.
Fun. The film is a comedy horror, although I didn't find it as funny as it found itself, it was definately fun. I thought that there wasn't enough zombie action, and towards the end the film cliche'd it's way to an irritating ending which was too familiar and too expected. There was no sequence of the zombies after the credits which is a bummer because I was expecting there to be one, and the scenes were the desperate virgin was warmed to by the hot chick did nothing for the story, and ruined the mood. The zombies make-up was cool, and a few times when they were killed was awesome to watch, but I could never really get over how there wasn't enough zombie action, or blood/gore. I love zombie movies, and even "Shaun of the Dead" (even though it was a spoof, it was still a Zombedy) had human getting bitten and turning into zombies, but this was just the same four characters who you knew were never going to get the chop. The opening credits sequence was probably one of the best zombie scenes of the movie.
The plot is just a comical attachment to any zombie films, by a virus outbreak causing humans to turn zombie, turning other people zombies by biting them, or just eating them alive. The comedy wasn't as humorous as you'd hope, but sometimes got a smirk or a giggle. Again, as a zombie film it didn't give us enough zombie deaths, but had alot of zombies. I hated the ending because it was cheesy and predictable, but the narration throughout (which summarized some things) was a quick way of extending the plot. The acting was average.
"Abigail Breslen" didn't quite pull off a 12year old, and she didn't really seem thrilled to be anywhere at anytime in the film. "Emma Stone" and "Jesse Eisenberg" played the hot chick and the desperate virgin. While they pulled of their role, their characters are probably more suited to some rom-com flick. The highlight of the movie was "Woody Harrelson", playing the only funny character (in my opinion), and as weird as he seemed, his character is probably relatable to alot of people.
Overall "Zombieland" as a zombie movie sucked, but was still able to be fun and entertaining, even if there wasn't enough zombies. My rating is 2.5/5.
