Plot Synopsis, Review
A group of friends decide to go on a camping trip the weekend of their small country town's annual festival. When they come back from their forest trip, they are shocked to discover their homes had been ambushed, and their families and friends nowhere to be found. They soon discover it's World War III, and they must fight for their lives.. or ultimately surrender.
Good. I will admit, not many Aussie flicks do it for me, and seeing this twice in cinemas says it all for me. It was a good flick, with great action sequences that keep the audience on edge. The characters (most of them anyway) were likeable and some relatable. The Aussie accents remained very strong, and it was great the flick maintained consistency in it's pacing. The only dissapointment was the open-ending. I mean really, they just ruined what should've been a resolving climax.
The plot is adapted from an esrly 90's mega-hit book of the same name. The fact that the film is a book adaption is cleverly references to in the film (which made me chuckle a little). The ending was majorly dissapointing because now I have to wait over a year (or maybe never) until a sequel is made and released.
The acting was good. Caitlyn Stacey has moved her way up from soapie star Rachael Kinsky in Neighbours, Her heroine role was far superior to anyone elses and she was great to watch. Lincoln Lewis played a complete douche (so could we really call it acting?). Rachel Hurd-Wood played best friend to Stacey, and girlfriend to Lewis. She was pretty meh, her scenes of utter pain were nothing to compliment. Pheobe Tonkin played Fiona (FiFi) and was great.
Overall "Tomorrow: When The War Began" is an Australian action thriller that has out-done any other Aussie flick of late. My rating is 3/5.
