Plot Synopsis, Review
When a group of friends passing through Texas in 1973 pick up a hitchhiker, she shoots herslef, and the friends stop and call the sheriff. After waitingt and waiting, they decide to look for him, but discover something much worse than the dead girl in their van. They discover a chainsaw carrying psychopath with a mask made of skin.
Brilliant. This is honestly one of the best films I have ever seen in my life. From the visual look to the film, right down to the heart of it, the film satisfy's everything you could ever want in a horror film. The opening sequence gives a glimpse of the crime, which is intriguing enough, then wqe are taking to the group of friends, which are happy and is a fun scene. The hitchhiker scene is a very gruesome and haunting scene, and plays reference to a scene at the end. The setting of the film is amazing, with the Hewitt house being veyr big, and very haunting just to look at. The visual style of the movie was excellent, giving every scene a brilliantness and beauty. I love how it is very old fashioned, and just how chilling and nail-biting some scenes were. One scene towards the end was so disturbing, where a character stumbles across a trailer with a two woman in it, who are very enforcing in the girl drinking tea. When the pace again picks up, it's definately the most edge-on-seat section of the film, and is absolutely terrifying to watch. The death scenes had heart, and the chase scenes were lethal, and the ending sequence was the final chilling moment that left you wanting more.
The plot is an adaption from the 1974 film of the same name, and in my opinion, this is so much more effective. There is some comical dialogue from one character that is so disturbing and add's to the tension of the film. Every scene was so brilliantly worked, and the tension building was very successful in scaring you later. The fact that we got to know the characters a little made it that much more thrilling, because you were either rotting for them to survive, or hoping they would meet their demise.
The acting was definately a great part to the movie. “Jessica Biel” was excellent as “Erin”, the “final girl”, who was the tom-boy who fought for her survival. Biel was great in making us believe it was happening, and she was great at acting every emotion needed in order for us to believe. “Mike Vogel” and “Erica Leehrson” were both great at there roles, “Leehrson” being a great screamer. “Eric Balfour” played “Kemper” who was “Erin’s” boyfriend, and you immediately felt sad when he met his demise because he was the nice guy, and doing what was right. The “Hewitt” family were just the most distrubing family in a movie. “Andrew Bryniarski” played the iconic “Leathreface” and excelled in scaring the absolute shit out of you. “R. Lee Ermey” was another highlight as the dirty speaking Sheriff, who was just not right. “Terrence Evans” and “Marietta Marich” were other aged family members, who were very proud of their family. Two ladies in a trailer were “Heather kafka” and “Kathy Lamkin”, who were only in the film for five minutes, but were so weird they stuck out to me.
Overall ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” is excellent, fun, and very disturbing. My rating is 5/5. The film is an absoulute thrilling piece of work. A genuine masterpiece, right down to a tee.
