Plot Synopsis, Review
Sarah is off to college, and her new roommate is very eager and excited to meet her. But as their friendship grows, strange things start to happen, and her roommate seems to be connected in all of them.
Okay Okay. I'm a sucker for a good stalker flick, and whilst this genre has
recycled the premise a million times, this film makes it fresh and interesting,
and it keeps you watching. Alot of the flick may have been predictable, and it
could've been taken alot further, I love it for what it is. It's a teen
thriller. It builds up tension like it should, and delivers what it sets out to
do, and yes it may have been dissapointing on a scale of violence and suspense,
I thoroughly enjoyed it. The climatic fight at the end (which everyone knows is
eventually coming) was great.
The plot is simple. Rebecca becomes obsessed with roommate Sara. I loved the characters. As much as the audience hates Rebecca, we also feel alot of sympathy for her. She's not taking her medication and she's clearly had no friends before (and she's clearly become
obsessed before too) and will do anything to make Sara her best friend. She was
psychotic and everytime she had this look you know shits about to go down.
The acting was great. Although not a fan of Leighton Meester, she does a
terrific job as Rebecca. Some of the looks she gives are just chilling. Minka
Kelly was also good as Sara. The only problem with the two leads was that at
some points they looked very similar. Teen film usuals Cam Gigandet and Matt
Lanter also had roles.
Overall The Roomate is a re-hash of the old stalker premise but it's thoroughly engaging and sometimes chilling. Great performences top it off. My rating is 3.5/5.
