Plot Synopsis, Review
Roy and Denise Solomon (Dylan McDermott and Penelope Ann Miler), their 16-year-old daughter, Jess (Kristen Stewart) and mute 3-year-old son, Ben (Evan and Theodore Turner) leave the fast paced life of Chicago for the secluded world of a North Dakota farm. Amidst the tranquil sway of the farm’s field of sunflowers, Jess soon realises how terrifying seclusion can be when she and Ben begin seeing ominous apparitions invisible to everyone else.
Predictable. This movie was boring, way too predictable, and just plain stupid. If it makes sense, I prefer a film where we actually know the scares are coming but get scared anyway, rather than scares that are so obviously planned and built up that they fail to make an impact. The presence of vicious crows in the movie made it seem like they somehow connected or had a twist, but they didn't, and the ending was predictable. Every cliche in the book was unavoidable, and I was unable to understand why the opening scene made it seem like it was a supernatural killer, rather than a human being.
The plot had borrowed so many things off over films, which isn't a problem, it's just when they do nothing new or original to make them seem fresh, was the irritating part. Pointless scenes, dialogue and characters made you seem they were part of the "twist", but they ultimately weren't.
The acting was pretty bad. "Kirsten Stewart" is terrible, and the only reason she got into Twilight was probably because you need to be an expressionless and emotionless moping sack of shit on-screen. She walked around like she was a hunchback, and had the same face the whole time.
Overall "The Messengers" is a cheap, predictable piece of recycled cliche's that fails to try to make itself fresh and original. My rating is 1.5/5.
