Plot Synopsis, Review
Set in a future where the Capitol selects a boy and girl from the twelve districts to fight to the death on live television, Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take her younger sister's place for the latest match.
I hadn't read the books, nor even seen the trailer for the movie, so my mind was
completely oblivious to what the film was even about. The film had heart, action
and death. What I found to be letdowns was I think it stretched things out too
long. Whilst the viewer is always interested and intrigued, I think it was just
too predictable. The ending was clear from thirty minutes in, and even though
this is aimed at young teens I think it tried too hard to be this action epic,
but when it cracked down to the nitty gritty there really wasn't that much
action. With a running time of 2 and half hours it was good at setting up the
main characters, it was just average for me.
The plot is simple, and extremely unrealistic. There will no doubt be a sequel green-lit as soon as the films opening weekend in the US is established, and I hope there is because I
have many unanswered questions as a non-novel reader.
The acting was great. Jennifer Larence was excellent as Katniss, the strong witted protagonist. She really shone in scenes of emotion. Josh Hutcherson I find to always seem the same every character he plays, but this was an exception.
Overall The Hunger Games is an average teen action film that is enjoyable enough, but it
lacks more action scenes and stretches on quite a bit. My rating is 3/5.
