Plot Synopsis, Review
At a local race track, a man has a premonition of there being a fatal car crash killing majority of people there. When his friends and a few others leave the track thinking he's crazy, they are proved wrong when the crash does happen. Soon after, one-by-one the escapee's start dying in horrific accidents, the order they would've if they were killed in the car crash.
Short. The film only went for a mediocre 75 minutes. The mood and feel of this filom was very different to the previous three. The first three always had an errie and shallow feel throughout them which gave them effective scares, but this had a "fun" vibe throughout, and it didn't work for it when it came time to scare. While the deaths were refreshing and awesome, the ending death sequence was a dissapointment. I would've loved if this made more of a connection to the previous films. The only connections was that the opening sequence had x-ray sequences of deaths from the previous films, there was a "Clear Rivers Water" sign, and the town was "McKingley". The glossy texture of the movie decreased the creepiness it needed, and it wasn't as dark as the other three. As the "final" installment in the series, you would be expecting something extravagent, which I guess was the 3D effect, which was awesome.
The plot wasn't original, just taking the concept of the originals, and changing it to surround a new set of deaths and characters. It was definately too short, and we never really got to know the characters, which in the end makes you not really care when they die. I hated that there was no core connections to the other films, and it really cheapaned my experience because I think that is a punch in the face to the other three.
The acting was mediocre. "Bobby Campo" played the lead, but never really shone. He always looked uneasy, even before the first premonition. The rest of the cast were never really able to make you believe them, and the whole of the cast weren't very realistically balanced.
Overall "The Final Destination" has thumbs up for deaths, but thumbs down for running time, connections to previous films, and it's mood wasn't dark and errie which it should've been. My rating is 3/5.
