Plot Synopsis, Review
When the staff of Herrington High are invaded by unknown parasites, they begin a series of events that makes every student and townsperson into an unemotionless solider to their queen. Six unturned students must fight for survival if they want to escape the faculty.
Great. The film mixes comical humour and horror elements perfectly for a thrill ride that will have you surprised right till the end. It's fun guessing who has been turned and who hasn't, and the very modernised and stereotypicalised high school students provided entertainment the whole way. It excels in keeping us watching, giving us character's relatable and likeable, and it also excels in freaking us out. It manages to succesfully maintain pacing and consistency in it's revealing of key moments of the film. It's a teen sci-fi thriller that's ending is the ultimate cliche of every teen movie out there.
The plot was written by Kevin Williamson, the master behind Scream 1 + 2. He creates another success that's character development is a definate highlight of the film, and thats why it was so watchable, because we had our opinions about the characters from learning alot about them. The only lowlight of the entire film was that I was confused at where these alien parasite's originate from, surely film references in the film aren't the real answer.
The acting was good. "Jordana Brewster" makes her film debut, and is non-surprisingly great at making her character spring to life. "Josh Hartnett" shows in his early days that he is someone to watch out for, but "Elijah Wood" was simply annoying as the heroic geek. "Clea DuVall" and "Laura Harris" were excellent, and the extremely sexy "Famke Janssen" was erotically powerful and intriguing.
Overall "The Faculty" has an excellent cast and is a great teen sci-fi thriller that keeps you entertained and watching. My rating is 3.5/5.
