Plot Synopsis, Review
Isabella travels to Rome to discover whether her mother really has the devil
inside after discovering she murdered three people whilst having an exorcism
performed on herself.
Dissapointing. Let me just say, with a budget of $1m, this film has made it big time, no matter how many horrible reviews it recieves. I was dying to see this, but the end result was unscary affair.
The whole "found footage" sub-genre has really found it's feet with even more mainstream genre's tackling it (Project X, Chronicle) but as they keep coming, one thing is for sure. They keep dissapointing. The Devil Inside has a very intriguing premise, but in all realisticness the film fails to live up to the potential it had. The film was very rushed and put on full-throttle
after the first twenty minutes or so, and that really dissapointed me. With
found-footage films, the director really needs to connect the audince with the
character to make it seem like they are there and viewing it themselves, but
what we got here were some one-dimensional characters that really weren't that
likeable. The ending was by far the most irritating thing in the film, and i'll
leave it at that because I don't want to spoil anything.
As said previously, the crew worked pretty well with their $1m budget, thats for sure,
but personally the camera work was way too shaky, and the characters just
weren't likeable enough for the audience to care. Whilst the film did manage to
keep you interested, the climax was predictable from half way through so when
the ending comes it wll leave you dissatisfied.
The acting was average, as you'd expect from a bunch of no names. Fernanda Andrade played Isabella, the young woman travelling to Rome. In the beginning she was sympathetic and likeable, but towards the end her character was just a complete douche.
Overall The Devil Inside is another found-footage horror film that fails
to live up to it's potential with a predictable story and one-dimensional
characters. My rating is 2/5.
