THE BREED
Plot Synopsis, Review
Five friends head to a remote island for a weekend getaway. But after one of them is attacked by a vicious dog, it becomes clear that they are not alone on the island. Something just doesn't seem right about the dogs that are showing up and although the dogs do not want them there they won't let them leave.
Playful. The beginning is fun and promiscious, and then as we get deeper and deeper into the film, the mood shifts to a edgy and stylish thriller. It manages to keep you entertained with a series of sequences used to manipulate you liking characters, but fails because of predictable outcomes. While it was always predictable, it did manages to surprise you on a few occasions. A ending so predictable it was almost laughable was dissapointing, the film never quite seemed to maintain the coolness it had at the beginning. Death scenes and blood suplly were staisfying, as was the use of scary dogs.
The plot was original. "Wes Craven" rarely does wrong, and although this an average flick, it's not a complete dissapointment. It has many flaws which are visibly, but it't tight nit characters and sub-plot are all what reels us in for the ride. The opening scene was a huge thumbs up, and somewhere the plot started to decrease in greatness right to the mediocre open-ending.
The acting was good. "Michelle Rodriguez" looked like she was having fun, and it really showed in her role. "Taryn Manning" was sassy as the two brothers best friend, and was enjoyable as we saw her characters descent. "Oliver Hudson" and "Eric Lively" played two brothers who had a unobvious rocky relationship.
Overall "The Breed" is an average flick that starts of greta but slowly decreases to a cliche and predictable ending. My rating is 2.5/5.
