Plot Synopsis, Review
Leigh Ann needs an A in History to get the schloarship that will get her into college. Her teacher is the most hated in the shcool, Mrs Tingle, and after Leigh Ann's friend sticks the exam answers in her backpack, Mrs Tingle catches them. Now, they must goto all lengths to stop Mrs Tingle from telling.
Undeniably fun. From the typical teen music and high school scenes, the film keeps pumping with the hilarity aswell as keeping you entertained with tension. Most of the flick takes place in the home of the title character, Mrs Tingle, who's evil and blank stares are almost frightening. The comical sequences and dim-witted youth made the experience alot of fun, and by the end of the film the growth of the characters was a great transmission for the lead character. The ending was predictable from the beginning, but it's feel-good vibe leaves the viewer satisfies.
The plot has Kevin Williamson written all over it. The writer of other awesome flicks The Faculty, Scream 1 + 2. Between it's comedy and tension building, he successfully manages to keep the viewer entertained, especially when the flick revolves mainly on the super-thin plot. The way Mrs Tingle was able to manipulate whilst being captive was excellently executed.
The acting was great. Katie Holmes stars in her first leading role, and is effortless at pulling off the innocent and straight A student Leigh Ann. Playing her promiscuous and upfront best friend is Marisa Coughlan in her first film role. She was great to watch, especially in her impersonation from the exorcist. Also in their first film role, Barry Watson playes sufficiently as the love interest for both the two best friends. By far, the best acting was by Helen Mirren. She can really play a sadistic bitch awesomely.
Overall 'Teaching Mrs Tingle" is a fun and entertaining teen thriller that keeps you watching. My rating is 3.5/5.
