SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD
Plot Synopsis, Review
The world is over-run by the dead. A group of soldiers make there way to PLUM Island where the virus has been "controlled and minimal".
Meh. I'll admit, Romero is an extraordinary filmmaker, but his last few projects haven't been really great (IMO). 2005's Land of the Dead was shit, then came the worse film Diary of the Dead, and with this one it seems Romero is loosing his touch. The film was enjoyable enough to keep the audience watching, but the pacing and characters made the film seem a little boring. It tried too often to be humorous (a Romero cliche) but failed because it didn't quite fit in. The ending was a huge predictable mess and it doesn't leave the audience quite satisfied.
The plot was just another interpretation of the world being overtaken by zombies. But this one has a reference to Diary of the Dead (remember the soldiers coming and taking their stuff in that film, well this film focuses on those soldiers). The characters weren't extremely likeable, or the ones that were were killed off pretty quickly.
The acting was ok. Alan Van Sprung and Devon Bostick were clearly tring for Alpha-Male in a love-hate friendship, and Athena Karkanis as good. Kathleen Munroe played twins and was underused alot.
Overall "Survival of the Dead" is the 3rd Romero film in a row to be a dissapointment. My rating is 2.5/5.
