Plot Synopsis, Review
Rose, a desperate mother who takes her adobpted daughter, Sharon, to the town of Silent Hill in an attempt to cure her of her ailment. After a violent car crash, Sharon dissapears and Rose begins her desperate search to get her back. She descends into a fog of smoldering ash and into the center of the twisted reality of a town's terrible secret. Pursued by grotesquely deformed creatures and townspeople stuck in permenant purgatory, Rose begins to uncover to truth behind the apocalyptic disaster that burned the town 30 years back.
Confusing. The film was 2 hours in length, which is pretty hard to sit through, and is very confusing. I still don't understand the ending, and how there can be people living in an isolated town for 30 years. The creatures, gore, and effects were cool, but the plot was very very complex and lengthened. I think you really have to pay attention to every little detail, to fully understand what is going on, and why. There was a really pointless scene, where the lead role goes into a room, and then a god-like little girl is explaining the "truth".
The plot was too complex, and there was plot holes at why there was weird creatures. The ending was also very confusing, and I still don't quite understand the ending.
The acting was great, "Radha Mitchell" being the obvious highlight. It's really great to see her showing a raneg of emotions, and especially having an immediate reaction to the creatures, rather than have a slow one, in other genre films. "Sean Bean" was a supporting role, and didn't really impact the film in anyway, like you'd expect him too.
Overall "Silent Hill" delivers great effects, and a good premise, but the complexity of the plot, and confusing ending really decreases the films value. My rating is 2.5/5
