Plot Synopsis, review
Teddy is a US marshal who is taken to Shutter Island, a secluded place with an Asylum for the criminally insane. He and his new partner, Chuck, are there to find out what happened to a patient who seems to have just vanished through the walls, but as they keep searching for evidence and clues, it seems that everyone on the Island is hiding a secret, and it may just be something to do with a lighthouse just off the shore.
Shit. This was an absolute borefest, going for over 2hrs. Seriously, if I wanted to see something that ended up so pointless and ridiculous, i'd go watch "Soul Survivors" again. This had nothing going for it, nothing to intrigue us to keep watching, and nothing to get us suspicious. I found my mind sometimes wandering, and when I realised I wasn't paying attention it didn't matter, it was only some tacky dialogue anyway. The Island setting, and many scenes in fact were visually excellent, but the fact that the movie was a kick in the nuts didn't help. The "twist" ending I saw coming 20 minutes before it was revealed, and it was so elaborate and just a waste of time.
The plot was based on a book of the same name, and then adapted for the big screen. The book (without reading it) will be better, books always can pull off ending's like that, but when a movie does it, you feel cheated and dissapointed because 2hrs of sitting at a drive-in uncomfortably waiting for the film to get better was only wishful thinking.
The acting was quite good. Despite the overall film's mess, "Leonardo DiCaprio" was believable as US marshal "Teddy", and when the ending was revealed, he seemed legit in the characters shoes.
Overall "Shutter Island" was a boring, 2hr snoozefest, and it's big "twist" ending makes the film pointless and tacky. My rating is 1/5.
