Plot Synopsis, Review
Ian is a virgin, who is desperate to lose his virginity. He embarks on a road trip with his two best mates to meet possibly the hottest chick on the planet. Along the way he discovers what true love is, and that just maybe the reason he was waiting was right there with him.
Watchable. Although it was clearly a mix between American Pie and Road Trip, it still managed to satisfy the audience with relatable moments and laugh-out-loud moments. Once it gets into the road trip side of things, it never let-up. It had every cliche in the book, but sometimes had a new twist so we weren't getting bored. The ending was predictable from the get-go, and the summary of events after gives you a fun and fuzzy feeling. Dissapointments were the fact that some characters were extremely underused to the point of me feeling cheated.
The plot was based on the book "All the Way", which from my guess was inspired by the likes of American Pie, Road Trip etc. The character development in the screenplay was really good for the three lead roles, especially between Ian and Felecia, but rest of the characters didn't quite get the same realness to them. The climax at the end was a little to over-the-top I thought, as was several other sequences.
The acting was good. "Josh Zuckerman" was extremely believable as the desperate virgin, and "Amkanda Crew" was also believable as the best friend / love interest. Their relationship and chemistry was also believable. While "Clark Duke" portrayed the best friend who was a chick magnet, It wasn't believable. He was nerdish in appearence, which in stereo-typical circumstances (which this film plays alot on), wouldn't get much action. "Seth Green" was extremely underused, and "James Marsden" was hilariously aggro.
Overall "Sex Drive" is a teen comedy that is a mix of American Pie and Road Trip, with some originality on top. My rating is 3/5.
