Plot Synopsis, Review
A television reporter and her cameraman are trapped inside a building quarantined by the CDC after the outbreak of a mysterious virus which turns humans into bloodthirsty killers.
Creepy. I gotta say it, many of these foreign remakes have been pretty pathetic, but Qurantine hits all the right notes and has some genuinely creepy moments. It starts off boring, and then you can feel the tension set-in as the crew team get to the apartment building. From then on it's non-stop jolts of violence and terror and it never let's up. It hooks you and doesn't let go until the ending that is so obvious (when you think about it afterwards).
The plot is virtually a US remake of Spanish film [REC] which literally made a cinema patron in a New Zealand film festival shit themselves. While it's not right at the level of [REC], it's not too far behind. It's quite original (excluding the original, there's not many like it) and the ending is probably the scariest sequence.
The acting was good. Jennifer Carpenter mastered every emotion possible as Angela, and she was extremely believable. Jay Hernandez played the fire-fighter and was average.
Overall "Quarantine" was a genuinely scary foreign remake that is a hooking experience. My rating is 3/5
