Plot Synopsis, Review
A small mining town is in terror as the 10th anniversery of a murder spree starts to happen again on Valentines day.
I quite enjoyed the original My Bloody Valentine, and this remake is also quite enjoyable, althogh it does have some flaws. The film opens well. I really love it when the opening credit sequence has some dialogue or is an actual scene aswell. The film was very fast paced, which also keeps the audience watching the entire time. The death scenes were great, and there was heaps of them. I was actually quite surprised at how much blood and death there was. Te ending really annoyed me because it just makes so many scenes in the film extremely pointless. There were plenty of action scenes that were nail-biting, especially the opening scene.
The film is a remake of the early 80s flick of the same name, and this film was also the first horror film to use Reel D 3D technology. The film was definately made for 3D, many scenes purposely filmed with things centered right at the audience which I think you've got to have if your putting a horror film in 3D. The gimmick works great in this genre if pulled off, and My Bloody Valentine certaintly pulls off 3D well (the 3D DVD version is a no-no. Only watch the Blu-Ray 3D with a 3D TV).
The acting was great. Three leading roles went to Jaime King as Sara, Kerr Smith as her husband and Sheriff of the town, and Jensen Ackles who is Sara's boyfriend from her teenage years who's father was the original murderer. They were all great.
Overall My Bloody Valentine isn't the greatest remake to come out, but it ues the 3D technology to it's advantage and has loads of blood and gore. The only dissapointing thing with the film is the ending. My rating is 3/5.
