Plot Synopsis, Review
Now that zombies have taken over the world, the living have built a walled-in cityto keep the dead out. But all's not well where it's most safe, as a revolution plans to overthrow the city leadership, and the zombies are turning into more advanced creatures.
Mediocre. For the long awaited and highly anticipated return to the "... Of The Dead" franchise, all I have to say is that it was pretty shit. It was boring, dragged on, and too predictable. Also the fact that the zombie's could think and were smarter is never a good thing in a zombie film. I can handle (and prefer) when the zombies are fast, in this they were the original walking ones, but can't handle when dead things can think, and when they don't just savagely go for humans. The ending was annoying because they let some go free stating "They just wanna find somewhere to go", and acted as if they posed no threat. In realistic terms, the zombies would never quit looking to eat the humans, the the humans would never rest until they are safe from the humans, so when they think it's OK to let some roam free it makes me angry. Some CGI effects were obvious, most not, and there was some nice kill shots.
The plot for starters was another take on a simple premise, only this time humans have found a "safe" place to hide. I really didn't like how that was because no person in their right mind would stay confided in a place like that knowing that IF something went wrong they couldn't escape. Not once did the film try to surprise us by makiing us jump or be scared, it was more about the tacky characters.
The acting was average. Aussie "Simon Baker" was nuetral as the hero. "Dennis Hopper" surprised me by being in this movie, dunno why but it was a nice surprise. "Asia Argento" tried to be the "tough chick", but failed miserably. Her character should stick to being a $2 hooker.
Overall "Land of the Dead" is a weak zombie film, dragged down by it's thinking zombies, boring characters and sequences, and fails to scare you or make you jump. The wait and anticipation wouldn't have been worth it for those who waited years for it. My rating is 2/5.
