Plot Synopsis, Review
A salvage crew on the high sea's are alerted to the Antonia Graza, a massive Italian cruise liner missing since 1962. When they board the ship, hoping to cash in, they soon realise she's not what she seems.
Great. This is one of very few films that manages to get you hooked within the first few minutes (other's being Scream, House on Haunted Hill) and it fulfills the criteria of being a creepily effective horror film. The gore was great, and hardcore horror fans like myself will really have lapped it up. The effects were great too, very up-to-date which was great. I also feel that the dark and gloomy texture of the fllick worked to it's advantage because it's such a dark centred film, and it just worked. The ending was predictable and cliche'd, but that doesn't lessen the fact it was a awesome horror with alot of action.
The plot was pretty simple. Without giving too much away, it had some great supernatural elements. The flick was filmed in Australia, and because it's so good, the fact that it's homemade really gives it that extra notch. It's Dark Castle Entertainments 3rd flick, and third hit with me. House on Haunted Hill and Thir13en Ghosts were great, and Ghost Ship is no exception. Tghe plot was really character driven which I loved because it gave the audience the chance to sympathise with the crew which were family to eachother.
The acting was good. Julianna Margulies was great as tomboy heroine Epps, and the audience really sympathised with her. Gabriel Byrne played the salvage crew's captain, and he was great at being the leader and fafther figure. Desmond Harrington was good too at being a very suspicious character.
Ocverall "Ghost Ship" is a full-throttle horror flick with great action scenes, supernatural elements, gore, effects, and has an opening scene that will stay with you forever. My rating is 3.5/5.
