Plot Synopsis, and Review
Freddy Krueger rely's on people remembering him, it's what powers him, but for the last four years he's been forgotten, and his sick of it. He awakens Jason Voorhees, the killer from Camp Crystal Lake, to kill people, and make people think it was Freddy, so that people will remember him, and he will be strong enough to kill again. Soon enough Freddy gets sick of Jason killing all his "children", and they battle it out in Crystal Lake.
Pointless. The film is definately intriguing, with the basic premise, but the movie itself, is pretty pointless and plotless. I found it to be much more of a kill-fest, which for any horror fan is great, but when you put two of the most iconic villans together, and don't have any plot work, and pointless scenes of battle before the finale, the film gets boring. For the first 30 minutes, the film has a good plot coming, but after that it shrivels up into nothing. There were many scenes, that were obviously used just to kill some time, and the whole film was way too predictable.
The plot definately needed to be worked on. Both series have many sequels, and this would be an insult to each. This film had flashbacks to Jason's death, and it has completely changed from the originals, and since this isn't a remake, that is totally unacceptable. The film wanted to be cool, and be a sequel to each franchise, but by using false information, and totally changing previous films, it has basically remade both series. The tagline "Winner Kills All" tells us that one will win, but at the end Jason walks out of the lake carrying Freddy's decapitated head, but then it blinks, which makes the 90 minutes we just watched a pointless waste of time. It's really sad that a good premise, which could've been an amazing feature, totally ruins each franchise by changing information of past experiences, and then falsley intriguing us by implying one will win, when they both are still alive.
The acting was OK, nothing special. "Monica Keena", who played the lead, was only believable when she wasn't acting scared, or threatened, well basically she was good for the first 10 minutes of the film, then she got too over the top. "Kelly Rowland" was actually watchable, and funny in the supporting role, playing the typical black-best friend. Her death was a let-down, but the role showed she could act. Reprising his role as Freddy, "Robert Englund" brang the comical humour that is Freddy Krueger, and well it worked, but done nothing for the mood of the film, which was supposed to be scary.
Overall "Freddy vs. Jason" is a pointless waste of time, and an insult to both the "Friday The 13th" and "Nightmare On Elm Street" franchises. My rating is 1/5.
