Plot Synopsis, Review
A group of survivors start dying one-by-one in the order they were supposed to after they all escaped a bridge collapse.
Well well. Death comes back for more after the worst film in the franchise was
the most successful. Makes sense. I'd like to start by saying this franchise has
provided so much horror and nearly the same amount of comedy (although the
franchise is somewhat turning itself into the Childs Play saga by the later
entries being purely comedy). The first of the "lucky 8" deaths was the most
shocking, my jaw actually dropped. The gore was excellent, and each death scene
was unique. What I loved was the bridge collapsing. That was a great scene.
Whilst inbetween the deaths there was pretty much no plot to speak of, but the
film was still enjoyable. The ending was definately a huge highlight. One of the
best endings in franchise points of view.
The plot is pretty much the
same as the other flicks. Someone has a premonition of a fatal accident, warns
people and they survive. Then slowly, one-by-one they start to die, and the
remaining ones must figure out how to cheat death. Simple, extremely thin, but
with this franchise I think people are only really seeing the film for the
deaths (thats the only reason i did). The first three films had great characters
and a decent storyline to go along with the deaths, but the 4th film was a
complete mess. This sequel is the 3rd best of the bunch (behind #2 and #3), and
I'm definately going to see this again... IN CINEMAS.
The acting was
horrible. The acting in #4 was also horrible, but great deaths is what has kept
this franchise afloat. No-one comes for a sophisticated story anymore from the
franchise, and I really don't expect them to. Nicholas D'Agosto played the lead
character who has the premonition, and he was just horrible. No emotion and
rather annoying. His girlfriend, Emma Bell plays a bigger role towards the end.
I was happy to see most of these characters meet their demise bar one, Jaqueline
MacInnes Wood. Her character was dark humoured and funny. Thank god Tony Todd
was back in the film as the coroner who played a key role in both the first and
2nd films (had a voice in the 3rd, nowhere to be seen in the 4th). He's creepy
and awesome.
Overall Final Destination 5 gets the franchise back on
track, although it ditches a good storyline and good acting, the deaths were
great. My rating is 3.5/5.
