Plot Synopsis, Review
Five people are trapped in an elevator. One of them is not what they seem.
So, i've been waiting a few months for this release, and the trailer was amazing. While it wasn't as good as I was expecting, it was still an entertaining watch. It keeps you guessing right until the end, "who's the devil" being the question crossing my mind all the time. Whilst it was extremely predictable when someone was about to die (the lights would go off in the elevator) but you were never quite sure WHO it would be. It made me jump two or three times, but I don't think it was aimed to be a scary movie, rather a psychological thriller. The Devil him/herself is always interesting when placed in a film, and the end when it was revealed was very surprising.
The film is the first in the "Night Chronicles" films, which I don't think have anything to do with each other. M. Night Shyamalan's best film by far in my opinion was The Happening, and whilst he didn't direct this (he produced it), the marketing really focused on his participation. Character's each had back stories, but they weren't exactly likeable, quite annoying after a while.
The acting was good, apart from the characters being annoying. Chris Messina played the detective in charge of the case, and he seemed so assured of himself that he became somewhat irritable to watch. Bojana Novakovic played the young woman who was the most suspicious of the bunch. She was great emotionally, but you hated her towards the end.
Overall "Devil" keeps you entertained and guessing to the end, but's irritating characters were a slight shame. My rating is 3/5.
