DAY OF THE DEAD (2008)
Plot Synopsis, Review
A small town is put into military quarantrine because of a bio-terrorist virus outbreak that upon infection, you turn into a flesh eating zombie. A group of survivor's must fight for their lives among the plaugue of infection and hope they come out alive.
Meh. I never really though much of the trailer, so I wasn't expecting anything extravagent for the overall film. The unsuccessful attempts at scaring the audience were almost as petty as some of the CGI effects. Many scenes of zombies getting killed were too obviously fake for comfort, but the effort of blood and gore is to be praised. The open-ending is predictable, as was picking which characters were going to meet their demise and which weren't.
The plot is a re-imagined version of 80's classic "Day of the Dead" from horror legend "George A Romero". The outbreak seemed realistic, but there are several plot points that were very unrealistic. The first is that if the zombies are sooo smart and can think, why didn't they leave the town when there is no one guarding it, and 2nd is the characters that survived, and without giving too much away, it's a cliche in it's own way.
The acting was less than average. "Mena Suvari" played an army solider, and while she tried so hard to act like she was in charge, I never felt like she was good at it. "Nick Cannon" seemed obsessed with being a Gansta I really couldn't take him seriously.
Overall "Day of the Dead" fails in being top-notch and fully realistic, but satisfies in the blood and gore department. My rating is 2/5.
