Plot Synopsis, Review
After an encounter with UFOs, a line worker feels undeniably drawn to an
isolated area in the wilderness where something spectacular is about to happen.
Close encounters of the boring kind. This film goes on for well over two hours, and I was left completely bored the entire time. The only satisfaction I got was at the end where the aliens finally reveal themselves. The film did an excellent job at keeping the suspence up, but the audience should not have to wait a couple of hours for the fun to kick in. It was dull, somewhat depressing and I really got bored quickly.
I know this film is a "classic" and blah blah blah, but I really couldn't be bothered with this movie. Steven Spieldberg has helmed many great films (Jurassic Park, Jaws) and this really was one of those epic movies that failed to live up to my expectations. Visually the film had some great moments, the aliens coloured lights were a nice touch, but the jingle they kept repeating was irritating to the max.
Overall Close Encounters of the Third Kind may have been amazing back in the 70s, but to me it hasn't held up well. My rating is 2/5.
