Plot Synopsis, Review
A epidemic has hit the world. A contagious disease where you suddenly go blind has plagued everyone, and they are placed in a hospital where all madness breaks loose. A woman is the only one who isn't blind, and will do her best to defend her, her husband, and save the lives of people around her.
Average. The film would be placed in the sub-genre of "DISASTER" themed, with the whole world going blind. Because there was no explanation at how it occured, I felt that the cliche and predictable ending was much worse than it should've been. For a two hour film, it should've somewhere along the way explained why people went blind. The tension was undeniable for about an hour, especially when a war broke loose in the hospital. Sympathy to all characters was a strong point to the films successful ways at keeping you watching.
The plot was realistic. If an epidemic like this did happen. they way the setting's were set out were very believable and realistic, and the film successfully manipulated our minds to think that it COULD happen. While the ending was a happy one, I thought that it was too predictable.
The acting was good. "Julianne Moore" pulls of a gracious performence as the only person in the world that isn't blind. Her emotion and emotionless expressions and dialogue were very well executed, and you were really rotting for her all the way.
Overall "Blindness" has some powerful scenes, and keeps you watching, but the unexplained reason for the disease and predictability of the ending was a slight let down. My rating is 2.5/5.
