Plot Synopsis, Review
Nina is dedicated to her Ballet. She has just been cast as lead in her theatres production of Swan Lake. As the training and rehearsels take it's toll, she begins to believe the younger and prettier girl is trying to take her role.
The film was so hyped up to be "a masterpiece" and "amazing", but it was nothing more than an above-average thriller. It had cliche written all over it, the big twist ending I saw coming from about 30 minutes in, but the film managed to keep you enthralled for the entire time. It had some genuinely creepy moments, and some sequences that made me cringe, and it successfully manipulates the audience into Nina's perspective.
The plot is very unique. Who would've thought that a ballet theatre production could be home to such a thrilling story, that is also believable. The plot was also somewhat realistic in the sense of someone being under so much pressure to succeed that they start to believe someone is trying to sabotage them to take over their role.
The acting was great. Natalie Portman was excellent as the shy and innocent Nina, boxed in by her mother and her passion for perfection as a ballet dancer. She really captivates the audience. Mila Kunis was great too, seemingly being an evil mole trying to take Nina's spotlight.
Overall "Black Swan" is a unique and amazingly-acted flick that while isn't as amazing as it's amped to be, but is still a decent thriller. My rating is 3/5.
