Plot Synopsis, Review
A fleet of Marines are ordered to fight against unknown figures landing on our Earth. These creatures are so much more high-tech and must fight for their lives and the people of their country.
Just like another recent alien invasion flick, Skyline, Battle: Los Angeles has all the action and special effects it should, but falls flat with too much character development. Don't get me wrong, character development is great for many films, it's get you to like or hate characters, and feel for them, but in a film like this, minimal character development would've been better suited. Lasting for nearly 2hrs, I was excited because I was hoping for great action sequences and special effects (Like 2012 gave us), but the socialisation of the characters dragged on for longer than it should've.
The plot was similar to all the others alien invasion flicks. A select group of people band together and fight for survival. It was definitely all about the characters relationships and friendships, and getting the audience to feel for them when they either died or were injured. But some characters were so underused that it made their set-ups pointless. It also dragged on quite a lot and the ending was predictable.
The acting was good. Aaron Eckhart played the SSgt who had accidently killed his last pod in a tour a year ago, and he was the main one the audience was meant to feel for. Singer Ne-Yo is acting now, and Michelle Rodriguez was great as usual in an ass-kicking role.
Overall "Battle: Los Angeles" is better than Skyline, but great action and effects can't save it from dragging on and on with overuse of character development. My rating is 2.5/5.
