Plot Synopsis, Review
Resulting in a government experiment gone wrong, carnivorous fruit bats have stArted taking over a small town, and if every single infected bat is not destroyed, they could become a nationwide epidemic that cannot be stopped.
Energetic. I'm a sucker for a good creature feature, especially if they are fun and humorous as well as creepy, and Bats manages it perfectly, While being a tad predictable and having the inevitable creature feature cliche's, I was really surprised with the ending, which wasn't predictable nor expected. Usually an open-ending with one creature alive is what these films have, but Bat's runs over that little cliche (literally). Fast pacing was great in keeping the story moving, and the energetic characters were likeable too.
The plot is the same as every other creature feature: Mutated animal/s killing everyone. Creature Feature's can be made so poorly when the animal itself looks so fake, but for 90% of Bat's, they looked real, and creepy as hell. Character backstories were great in giving the audience something to relate to, or make them like a character more.
The acting was good. Lou Diamond Phillips is a very strange looking person, but he pulled off the weirdness of his character and humour excellently. Dina Meyer starred as the Bat expect who is called in to stop them all before it's too late, and she was realistic, believable and sympathetic.
Overall "Bats" is a fun and energetic creature feature that manages to mix humour and horror to a great balance. My rating is 3/5.
