Plot Synopsis, Review
Mandy Lane is an unattainable object of adolescent lust for all the boys in her high school. Invited on a weekend away to a remote ranch, shy Mandy sess it as a chance to cement some newly formed friendships. The boys see it as a chance to finally get with Mandy. As night falls, Mandy thinks the drunken "come-ons" will be the worst of it, but she is horrifyingly mkistaken. As events take a turn for the worse, it becomes clear that a secret admirer is harbouring some terrifying ulterior motives.
Enjoyable. The film starts of fun and entertaining and then a school chum is killed at a party. It then goes to 9 months later where it's apparent Mandy is part of the "cool" gang and her best friend from the party is no longer. The film then provides us with some laughs and fun scenes where everything somes fun and fine until they reach the ranch where many horror cliche's are apparent. The "no phone reception", the "this isn't funny" dialogue when someone is left alone, and finally the cliche where the twist ending will leave us gobsmacked. The "twist" ending definately wasn't seen until 5 seconds before it actually happend which was refreshing, but the killer was always predicted. Unique deaths were the cherry on the cake, and the effortless attempts at satisfying the audience in all categories is applausable.
The plot isn't entirely original, but a new spin on the "remote setting" genre. The characters were all familiar, by that I mean everyone knows someone like them in their life, and they all proved to be relatable at one stage or another. The only dissapointment with the plot was that I never really got the motive for the killing's, and it was never explained.
The acting was good. "Amber Heard" was surpsisingly effortless as the unemotional and expressionless "Mandy Lane". When it came time for her to shine in the last five minutes she really pulled it off.
Overall "All The Boys Love Mandy Lane" is a fun teen horror movies with unique deaths and is entertaining, but it's cliche's and unexplained ending were a dissapointment. My rating is 3/5.
