Plot Synopsis, Review
Alice returns to Wonderland as an 18y.o troubled woman, 13 years after her adventure there as a child. Meeting faces assuring her of her destiny, Alice must stop The Queen of Hearts before it's too late and get The White Queen back on the throne.
Weak. To it's credit, this film is visually amazing. A spectacular 3D feature that has mind-blowing effects... but the downfall is within the boring plot and OTT escapades. The film starts off just like a drama film would, but when Alice finally gets to wonderland, we still don't really like her. Characters such as The Mad Hatter (The can't-do-wrong Johnny Depp) and Chesire Cat were more lovable. Without the amazing CGI visuals, this film is a complete mess. The whole thing was as predictable as guessing the number between 1 and 3, and the climax and ending were just as gloomy was the beginning.
The plot is a re-imagining by Tim Burton of a book from a century ago, and being a Burton film, the darkness and depressing setting's were expected, but too much for a childrens film. Honestly, it seemed like the lead role should've gone to The Mad Hatter instead of Alice, as the entire plot revolved around him one way or another. Classic scenes and sequences from the book were left underused (or unused) such as the talking Flowers, and the white rabbit.
The acting was good. Exceptional roles were played by "Helena Bonham Carter" and "Johnny Depp", but lowlight was "Mia Wasikowska" as a annoying and depressing heroine that isn't likeable.
Overall "Alice In Wonderland 3D" reels you in with amazing visuals, but the story is boring and too depressing for a childrens film. My rating is 2/5.
