New horror's
"A Nightmare On Elm Street" remake, is rumoured to be released to Australian cinemas in June 2010. An source, who works at a local cinema, has said they recieved word on a June release. "2012" (November 12), "Case 39" (November 5), "Sorority Row" (September 10) were the latest updates to the cinema schedule, with "Obsessed" dissapearing after a August 27 date. No word on whether "Halloween II" or "The Collector" will slash our screens. Other Horror/Thriller releases on the Schedule are "The Wolfman" (May 2010), "Alice In Wonderland" (March 11, 2010), and "The Stepfather" (December 3).
2009 HORRORS NOT GETTING AUSTRALIAN THEATRICAL RELEASE.
Many horror's this year won't be, or don't look likely to grace the screens of out cinemas, but will be released DIRECT-TO-DVD. US releases such as the remake of "The Last House On The Left", "Obsessed", "Halloween 2", "The Collector", "The Haunting In Connecticut" and more will be shelved from cinema release here. The remake of the 70's classic "The Last House On The Left" grossed $30 million in America, and the only reason for it not being released in Aus was because the distributor thought it would make more money on rentals/sales than cinematically. "Obsessed", which grossed $63 million in the US, is supposedly going to be released here on August 27, but EzyDVD (Major Australian DVD company) has coerart, and September DVD release on their site, plus the films official Australian site has now been re-directed to Sony Pictures home page. The film would definately be a hit if released cinematically, having the same audience 2007's "Perfect Stranger". "Halloween 2" will only not be released here due to the fact it's preceeder, 2007 remake "Halloween" was a flop here, grossing $700,000. The film could still potentially be released here, but I highly doubt it. "The Collector" which was only released to the US in early August, was a flop, and because of that, we probably won't get it, unless limited. If it does get limited release here, it'll be at 41 cinemas, like other major US flops "Captivity", "The Invasion", "Blindness", "Passengers", but then again US flops like "One Missed Call", "The Ruins", "Cold Creek Manor", "Skinwalkers", and "Vacancy" will probably be shelved DIRECT-TO-DVD. "The Haunting In Connecticut", which grossed $55 million in the US, has no real legit reason not to be released here. It's supernatural, and isn't marketed as full-on or gorey. Many upcoming horror's such as "The Stepfather", "Sorority Row", "Jennifer's Body", and "White-Out” will probably get shelved DIRECT-TO-DVD if they under-perform in the US, whereas “The Final Destination”, “2012” and “Avatar” will be released here regardless. “Case 39”, which has been riding the release schedule for 2 years, has finally settled for August 27 release, and will not be getting theatrically released in the US. Cinema posters, and Official Aussie site prompts that it will finally be released, and T.V spots are scheduled to start screening on August 13, so the film looks set to be released.
"SAW VII" 3D?
Lionsgate b roke the news earlier in the week that the 7th installment of the franchise will be 3D.
"SCREAM 4" NEWS.
It's official, "David Arquette" and "Courtney Cox" have officially signed on for cameos in the upcoming edition to the poplar franchise. "Neve Campbell" has refused to come back, and no word on whether "Wes Craven" will return, although he has stated if the script is as good as the originals, he will.
"A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET" ALLREADY A TRILOGY?.
The 2010 remake of horror classic "A Nightmare on Elm Street" has allready sparked two sequels, and the film hasn't even finished production yet. High hopes are obvious, and the film will most likely be a success, but I think it's way too soon to sign actors onto more films. "Jackie Earle Haley", who will play "Freddy Krueger", has official signed on for 2 more films, and "Rooney Mara", who will play "Nancy", has signed on for a second film.
"NEVE CAMPBELL" REJECTS OFFER.
"Neve Campbell" has rejected the offer to make a cameo in the forthcoming "Scream" film. Why she rejected hasn't been announced, but some speculation is that it is because in the end "Sidney" was going to be the killer.
"THE HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT" BECOMES A TRILOGY.
"The Haunting In Connecticut", which took $55 million in the US recently, has been rumoured to have a sequel, which is entirely possible, but now rumours have surfaced that there will be a trilogy. No release date for Australia yet for the successful horror.
NO "SCREAM 4", BUT INSTEAD A REBOOT TRILOGY.
It has now been confirmed that there will not be a third sequel to the highly successful trilogy, but a reboot for younger audiences could be possible. It's surfaced that stars of the franchise "Courtney Cox" and "David Arquette" were made offers to return, but "Neve Campbell"s name wasn't mentioned in the article on Entertainment Weekly.
"SAW 8" HAS BEEN OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED.
Yes, you read right, popular franchise SAW will definately be around for sequel #8. A 9th films hasn't been ruled out either. "Tobin Bell" who stars as mastermind "Jigsaw" in the series says #8 will most likely be the last one, but if it's successful WHO KNOWS?.
"FINAL DESTINATION 4: DEATH TRIP 3D" HAS BEEN RENAMED.
Thats right. FD4 has now been renamed to THE Final Destination (Italics are part of the title). If this film is a standout hit at the box office, there is no doubt in my mind it wont be the final one, but if it's a major flop, it could be. Im estimating a $40 million pull, which is average for a FD film.
"FRIGHT NIGHT" REMAKE SWITCHES DISTRIBUTOR.
The remake of horror comedy "Fright Night" was owned by "Sony Screen Gems" who have reputation of releasing PG-13 (M) rated horror flicks (Prom Night, When A Stranger Calls), but have sold the rights to the remake because they felt they couldn't make the film PG-13 (M) without ruining it. "Dreamworks Pictures" who have a string of horrors (The Ring, The Ruins) have been lurking for a horror film that could be huge, like their remakes of "The Ring" and "The Ring 2" which grossed $390 million worldwide together. Their most recent flicks "The Uninvited" and "The Ruins" haven't lived up to their expectations, grossing $29 and $17 million, respectively. The horror/comedy doesn't have a writer for the remake, but will probably be out sometime in late 2010.

Every year the population of sleepy Lake Havasu explodes from 5,000 to 50,000 for a single, wild weekend - the 4th of July, a riot of sun, drunken fun and sex-crazed mayhem. But this year, there's something more to worry about than hangovers and complaints from local old timers. Havasu sits in the crater formed by a prehistoric volcanic eruption, and when earth tremors tear open a crack in the lake floor, all hell breaks through. Piranhas - a million ravenous, razor-toothed monsters, unchanged since the dawn of time. Unstoppable killing machines acting blindly under one primeval impulse: to hunt down anything that moves and strip it to the raw, bleeding bone. In seconds.

"Dark Castle Entertainment" are no doubt, the best production company on the planet, giving us horror fans the delight of their films "House Of Wax", "Thir13en Ghosts" "Ghost Ship" and other horrors.
