Australian Box Office

This is the section on Australian box office, and will cover week-to-week ANY films that are released theatrically.

January 1 - 3

It's the first weekend of 09' and "20th Century Fox" has three pictures in the top 10, and Disney has four in top 20. School Holiday's means better grosses, with kids going for "Bolt", "Bedtime Stories", and "Madagascar 2". "Slumdog Millionare" is an unexpected triumph, getting better sales each week.

Ranking #1, is the new Jim Carrey comedy "Yes Man", which grosses $4,165,840 at 256 sites, with an average of $16,273. The film will most likely gross about $17 million here, in my view.

"The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button" and "Bedtime Stories" both decrease 9 and 6%, grossing 8 cand 7 million, ranking at #2 and #3 respectively.

"Bolt" and "Marley and Me" both make $2.4 million with "Bolt" grossing just under 7,000 higher.

"Madagascar 2" is still raking in, making a healthy $2,034,477 in it's third weekend. It decreases a small 7% and is currently screening at 311 cinemas with an everage of $6,542. My prediction, is that it's grossing will be approximately $26 million here.

Elsewhere in the chart "Australia" rises 5%, even loosing screens."The Day The Earth Stood Still" falls 48%, Twilight" falls 10%.

"Slumdog Millionare", that has increased it's sales by 48% pulling it's grossing to over $2 million. It is screening at 33 sites with an average of $20,783.

Not much down the chart apart from "Wall E" making another appearence inside the top 20, at 20. It makes $35,466 this week, with the rise in sales unknown to me.

Next week, my prediction is that "Slumdog Millionare" will have a little fall, and the top 5 all falling by at least a minimum of 20% in sales. Ranking #1 will be "even Pounds" taking maybe $3 million, and "The Tale Of Desperaux" ranking #2, with $3 million also.
